Getting out of Debt

Even for debtors in the most serious trouble, a little extra money may not necessarily be the solution. Although your current financial situation may seem bleak or unjust, very often the problem comes from repeatedly confusing our “wants” with our “needs”.

But do not despair. In his great love for us, God has given us the key to financial freedom: managing money in the way the Bible teaches. You may be surprised to learn that one of the best things you can do is to start giving to others and to experience the blessing that follows. Larry Burkett and Howard Dayton (co-founders of Crown Financial Ministries) offer practical steps that you can begin taking right now to ensure all your bills are fully paid, possibly with money leftover to reduce your debt even further. Use their suggestions below as you rearrange your spending priorities:
  1. Auto Repairs, Mechanics, and Extended Warranties

  2. Budget Busters

  3. Budgeting for Entertainment and Recreation

  4. Buying a New Car Versus Keeping an Old Car

  5. Dealing with Emergencies
