Stewardship—like almost everything else in life—must begin at home. Pastors and teachers must be especially careful to manage their finances and train their children appropriately (1 Timothy 3:3-4, 12; 6:6-10; Proverbs 31:10-31). “Families and stewardship” is also a critical area which must not be neglected in teaching and preaching, particularly when so many people have been raised themselves with little or no training in biblical financial principles. Also listed are books specifically for children of various ages. See also articles on these related topics: Exhorting the Parent and Teaching the Child.

OK, so your people are opening up their wallets. Where and how should the church spend its money? While there is no exact blueprint, these books provide some inspiration and direction for church budget priorities. Initial statistical evidence and our own experience suggests that churches that set high priorities on biblical models of church budgeting will “be rich in every way so that you might be generous on every occasion,” just as Paul advised the Corinthians when asking them to raise money for the poor (2 Corinthians 9:8, 11).
