WWJD?
The Church You Know video series. Streaming video.
This 30-second satirical video uses the question, “What would Jesus do with $50,000?” to demonstrate that often Christian “sayings, slogans, fads, and movements ... end up becoming semi-truths that allow us to justify a range of behaviors that may have nothing to do with God” or the sacrificial work he calls us to do. Narrator Chris Van Velzer wants his fellow believers to see that being trendy in the kingdom of God is not the same as being holy.

Nooma Generosity
Richland Hills (Texas) Church of Christ. Posted on YouTube, January 12, 2007. Streaming video.
How can 1 percent of the world’s population own 40 percent of its resources? What could we possibly do with this much stuff? In this 10-minute conversational video, we are led down a grocery store aisle by a young narrator, who laments America’s “Sam’s Club Christianity”: hoarding wealth and not giving to the poor. God has dealt with our human tendency to stockpile stuff since Bible times, and he is committed to weaning his children off their dependence on wealth and into a greater trust of his provision. In the Old Testament God commanded the Israelites not to not gather more manna than they needed for one day. In the New Testament Jesus admonishes a greedy man who wants part of his brother’s inheritance, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” The Bible teaches that hoarding wealth does not increase one’s happiness but, rather, isolates him from the community. The biblical call for generosity is not because God wants something from us or because he can’t provide for people. Instead, he commands generosity because he wants something for us—the joy of reflecting his image in being generous and participating in the exciting work he’s already doing in the world.
Tithing
The Church You Know video series. Streaming video.
Through a sarcastic and comedic delivery, narrator Andrew Brumme aims in this 30-second video to reshape a common view of the Christian tithe. How many of us tithe primarily so that God will bless us in return? Seeking to turn this view of tithing on its head, this video encourages financial giving that is “connected to a generosity that flows out of a relationship with Christ,” rather than a desire for something in return.
